Personal Perspective

I have run 4 marathons, a 50K on Bear Mountain in NY, I have run up the Empire State Building two times, I have hit the thousand pound club as a 39 year old dad, and I have played club lacrosse in college and beyond, all on cannabis. It is my favorite pairing. I believe its utility as a pain reliever and a mild hallucinogen allows it to help athletes be more present. I don’t think it makes you better. It clearly can be harder in some cases too, though still fun. Like rucking. Objectively it raises your heart rate, so there’s that. It’s a part of why you can get paranoid sometimes. What I love about pairing it with distance running is that you soon match that high heart rate to your running pace and then it takes you away. To your music. Your podcast. To just running in nature or in society. Personally i’ve been distance running on cannabis for around 20 years. So essentially I started while I was playing club lacrosse in college and running distance after. It’s interesting to me how many athletes and trainers partake. It’s gentler than alcohol or harder drugs. And nowadays you can eat or drink it. What a world.
