I don’t believe this will change until federal action actually addresses the holding case law, Gonzales v. Raich, which restricts interstate commerce due to the commerce clause. This is essentially the only case I remember from my 1 year of law school, lol.

Regardless, this needs to happen for this industry to grow into what it should be. Otherwise the black market will always want cannabis from states like California, and currently the legal states are producing way too much to be consumed intrastate. Even if states choose not to legalize, and though states will have ambition to keep out other states from their legal markets, interstate commerce is best for the industry in my opinion. High end products will always be desired. The supply chain economics won’t necessarily make a flood of out of state cannabis drown the Oklahoma market, for example, because it will always be cheaper to grow locally, but the artisanal craft products are always of interest and they help the stores. There are always a lot of parallels to wine and beer in this regard. People want wine from Sonoma or Napa or Rieslings from upstate New York or beers from the Willamette Valley or Asheville or Shiner. So how about we dilute the blackmarket by legally providing interstate commerce between the states that have already opted to legalize?

But hey, i’m just some fucking guy here. Only did one year of law school at SUCOL anyways…but I was on student government that year…
